| The mobile camera 4 will normally be operational only when there is someone on-site to operate it. For webcasts originating from Race Rocks, QuickTime Broadcaster on a Titanium G4 computer with a wireless connection through an Apple Extreme AirPort Base Station with a Wav-Lan extender. We also link wirelessly using the mobile underwater camera and the laptop either from the boat or from shore to our local area network on Race Rocks. |
Land-based programs may be transmitted wirelessly from anywhere on the island. From the Race Rocks LAN, we send a compressed signal via a microwave radio link from a dish at the top of the light tower over to Lester Pearson College. There the signal is decompressed and sent out by fibre-optic cable to the Akamai network hosted by the Apple Learning Interchange.
