Invitations to Inquiry :
1.In the reference below you will find statistics on food requirements of some of the birds at Race Rocks. Calculate the amount of food needed per day to sustain some of the populations listed above

Mammal and Bird Weight and Their Food and Water Requirement Statistics, BC GOV.

2. Copy and paste the table data above to an open EXCEL file: Use theat program to graph the population levels of the various groups of birds. Send to us any particularly interesting patterns that you come up with and we will post them here,
3. Compare the total number of species shown in each year's count. Is there much variation in numbers of species? You may suggest several hypothesis to explain the above answer.
4.Use the data for statistical exercises.
5. Starting in 2005, the corresponding weather for the week is given with the raw files. As more years are accumulated, you may be able to see if there are correlations between weather patterns and populations of certain species present in the area.
6. Many of the birds above are included in the Race Rocks Taxonomy. Go to this taxonomy for pictures and videos of the species.
