Ethogram Worksheet

Partner A:

Partner B:

The purpose of this section is to list as many behaviours as you can in a six minute time period for five different animals. You will be asked to look at either archived video or live videostreaming of animals.

Research Question: What different behaviours does the sea lion or sea gull do during its stay at Race Rocks?

Our hypothesis is:

Part A: Listing the Behaviours

  • Choose an animal (a gull or a sea lion).
  • Watch it for five minutes and list every single behaviour you observe.
  • Change to another gull or sea lion.
  • After you have finished observing 5 animals for 30 minutes, organise the behaviours into categories.
  • Then, in the right hand column, give each behaviour a code.
  • The list will be used for your time budget.
  • See example for more help
