Race Rocks Scavenger Hunt

The purpose of this Scavenger Hunt is to introduce you to the Race Rocks website and acquaint you with the links from the main page.

 

1. Go to the main page of Race Rocks.com and click on the virtual tour at the bottom. Click on the map at the bottom and take the virtual tours. From how many different viewpoints can you see the Race Rocks tower?

2. Go to the bottom of the main page and take a virtual tour of Race Rocks. What languages is tour available in?

3.  What assignment does each student from Pearson College Environmental Systems Course have to complete each year?

4. Go back to the main page and click on daily log… what is the weather like today at Race Rocks?

5. From the main page again, click on videocam… What are the different subjects that you can see live from each of the cameras?

6. Do you hear those sounds coming from the videocam pages? What do you think that barking sound is?

7. Who is Garry Fletcher? Can you find a picture of him?

8. From the main page, click on the technology page and click on the Apple Learning Link. What animal is Garry Fletcher standing beside?

9. From the Race Rocks main page, click on education. Which corner of the page are the JASON project lesson plan links on?

10. Go back to the main page and click on history. Answer the following question. What is the most southerly point in Canada on the Pacific coast?

11. On this same page find out where the rock for the lighthouse came from and how it was transported here.

12. Why are there black and white stripes on the Race Rocks lighthouse?

13. Find the Race Rocks site map link. Click on the hydrography link.   What is a bathymetric survey?

14. Go to the First Nations page… What does Earl say about how his band used   algae (seaweed)?

15. Why do the First Nations people mean when they say that the table set when the tide goes out?

16. Go to the first nation’s page. Click on the Race Rocks logo on the top left. What is the Klallum word for Race Rocks and who provided the translation?

17. From the main page, go to the sponsors page. Pearson operates Race Rocks and the students you see in the videos are from there. Click on the Pearson College Link. How many students go here and where are they from?
