Creature Hunt

This scavenger hunt focuses on the Archives and Taxonomy webpages and examines the various creatures found at Race Rocks.

1. From the main page , move onto the archives page. What are the different birds profiled on the birds page?

2.  What time of year do Harlequin Ducks normally arrive at Race Rocks?

3.  Look through the dive video archives, there is a video of a webcast to New York . What kind of scientific study are the divers doing while underwater?

4.  What do kelp fly larvae eat?

5.  What is happening in this video?

6.  What is this creature below?

    

7.  Go back to the main page and click on the taxonomy link at the bottom of the page. What are the main Kingdoms?

8.  Still on the taxonomy page, click on Animalia, then cnidaria. Find the pink soft coral. What accounts for the pink colour in the coral?

9.  Under the Kingdome Plantae, there is a plant called surf grass. Why does it need to be near the sea water to survive?

10.  Class Phaeophyta, found under the Kingdom Protista has Bull Kelp as one of its organisms. How fast does bull kelp grown on average, each day?

11.  What is contained within its float (the bulb at the top that allows the kelp to float?)
