| Suberites suberea
- also known as Suberites ficus This sponge begins it's life by attatching to a shell. As it grows, it will overtake the shell and eventually disolve it. A hermit crab (Pagurus) is usually found in the cavity of the sponge, but the sponge is usually quite larger than the crab itself. The sponge is hard textured and is dark orange in colour. Found all around the intertidal areas of Racerocks. http://www.public.coe.edu/departments/Biology/hermit.html |
