Earl Claxton

First Nations Use of Marine Resources: Algae.

On May 2, 2000, First Nations Elder Earl Claxton walked with us down on the shoreline at Race Rocks. He told us about the uses made of the various seaweeds or algae on the shoreline. The red algae, Porphyra sp. was "sea lettuce" to the Salish people.
