Halosaccion glandiforme (Gmelin) Ruprecht

 

Description: This plant is erect, up to 30 cm. high, generally in clusters, yellowish brown, olive brown, or reddish purple in colour, attached to the substrate by a small discoid holdfast.  The erect portion is an elongate hollow sac, up to 4 cm. in diameter, tapering abruptly to a narrow stipitate region below, and broadly rounded at the apex.  The hollow saccate region is filled with water.

 

Habitat:  On rocks in the middle intertidal zone.

 

Pacific Coast Distribution:  Alaska to Mexico.
