On the West side of Great Race Rocks, Animal and Plant life which is normally only visible by diving, can be seen at an extreme low or negative tide in June. This link is to a file done of pictures of the hydroid habitat which shows up at those low tides:

South of the tower, this channel is only flooded at high tide. You could say that the landform on the right changes from an island to a "tombolo" depending on the tidal height!
This link leads to a set of files on tidepools. Some of the tidepools are flooded during part of the day, making them intertidal pools. Other are above the high tide level and are only affected by extreme tidal surge from storms or sea spray.
The intertidal zone is especially affected by Surge or Swell as an Abiotic Factor
Ecological Transects are a useful way of quantifying the distribution of organisms in the intertidal zone.

Intertidal zonation is marked by distinct banding of organisms in the intertidal zone of Race Rocks. This image from the west side of the main island, gives and idea of the banding patterns on the shores and the index species which are typical of those zones
